Future projects – phase iii

MMI anticipates building air conditioned housing for visiting medical missions with comfortable sleeping and bathing facilities as well as kitchen, dining and lounge areas. Since the physicians and nurses pay for their own room and board the cost of the missions housing should be self-sustaining. Medical Mission International’s future plans may include a Dialysis Center, a Women’s Health Center, and two studio apartments for use by extended-term medical professionals.

Completed Projects

In conjunction with Salvadoran foundations, associations, municipal and ministerial organizations, MMI has funded the following projects:

  1. Hospital de Divina Providencia, Santiago Texacuangos, El Salvador:
This project involved rebuilding, remodeling, and expanding an existing hospital space into a modern, efficient surgical wing containing specialized ophthalmic and surgical equipment. In addition, MMI has expanded and modernized existing housing for visiting medical missions. The hospital can now accommodate 12 medical missions a year and provide modern medical equipment for their use.
  2. Hospital San Juan de Dios, Santa Ana, El Salvador:
This project involved the extensive remodeling, rebuilding and equipping of an existing Pediatric wing and the creation of a Pediatric Intensive Care (ICU) Unit – the first modern Pediatric ICU in the entire area. The existing Pediatric wing was last remodeled in the 1950s and the equipment was obsolete. This wing was fully modernized with medical gases, electricity and modern furnishings in cheerful colors. The Pediatric ICU suite of seven rooms exists in an air conditioned facility and has already been utilized in numerous life saving treatments. This project was accomplished in conjunction with Fundación Rafael Meza Ayau, Fundación Misión Médica El Salvador , the Ministry of Health, and with contributions from Salvadoran businesses.
